This site focuses on the wonderful times (well, mostly wonderful) I’ve enjoyed hiking and camping, activities I’ve loved ever since my childhood in New England. Despite the #1 advice of the books, I almost always hike and camp alone, revelling in the opportunity to experience nature to which this solitude is essential. It does get a little scary, as on 10-degree (F) winter evenings when only my headlamp and a few stars pierce the darkness, I haven’t seen anyone else all day, and the trailhead is still miles away…
